The presentation will focus on the identification of significant errors in how the IT Security Industry discusses threats, their consequences, and a discussion of improved models. This discussion will include specific discussion of Canadian examples, some ongoing, of attacks on specific industry sectors and how these models apply. This presentation will draw upon expertise and experience developed over a decade of leading National and International cyber intelligence operations as the Cyber Intelligence assessment lead for the Department of National Defence. Jamie O’Hare
Director of Channel and Client Relations
As Director of Channel and Client Relations, Jamie is part of the executive team responsible for growing and maintaining partner and client relationships for the Cytelligence Cyber Security service offering.
Over his 15 years of industry experience, Jamie has developed deep experience in IT Infrastructure, cyber security and client relations in both public and private sectors.
He understands and pushes the envelope on the underlying business drivers to produce the outputs necessary for his clients to fulfill both their short- and long-term goals. Jamie’s business background combined with his experience in cyber security produces a unique point of view, resulting in a streamlined approach with tangible results.
Jamie’s tenacity and dedication to his clients, partners and colleagues are his greatest assets, resulting in long-lasting relationships and exceeded expectations. An aptitude for leading, Jamie excels at building strategies, putting the right team in place while working within client parameters to fulfill project objectives. He excels in going the extra mile for clients and colleagues alike.
At TELUS, he increased territory market share 10-fold over a five-year period. He was the recipient of various awards including: multiple Premier Awards; VP Club Award; 2016 CEO Passion for Growth Award; and a graduate of the TELUS Leadership Program.
As a result of Jamie’s professional achievements, he was selected by Algonquin College as their most outstanding new graduate (in the past five years) and subsequently nominated by the College for the 2007 Premier of Ontario Award in the same category.
He is active in the cyber community, offering his expertise through various speaking engagements as well as moderating expert panel discussions to infuse cyber security into every business discussion.
Nicholas Scheurkogel
Director, Cyber intelligence
For the past decade, Mr. Scheurkogel led key cyber intelligence capabilities at the Department of National Defence (DND) including strategic cyber assessment, tactical support to cyber defence teams, and intelligence operations. Since 2006, Mr. Scheurkogel was the go-to cyber threat expert at DND and beyond.
A recognized leader in advanced cyber threat analysis, Mr. Scheurkogel has conceived and led joint future threats analysis initiatives among industry and Canadian Security and Intelligence community experts. In addition, Mr. Scheurkogel has also contributed significantly to cyber policy development, IT security engineering, network security operations, and strategic intelligence at the national level.
As the lead for the Department’s all-source cyber intelligence assessment capability, the largest team of its kind within the Government of Canada, Mr. Scheurkogel was responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate provision of cyber intelligence across tactical, operational, and strategic levels. He is credited with pioneering new forms of intelligence products ranging from the technical products used by engineers to integrated strategic threat assessments for the Deputy Minister. Mr. Scheurkogel has personally authored, edited, or approved more than 1,000 cyber intelligence products.
An experienced leader of high-end technical teams, Mr. Scheurkogel has lead domestic and international operations across the spectrum of security, IT security, and cyber functions including: all source intelligence analysis and assessment, counter-intelligence, vulnerability assessment, counter technical surveillance, penetration testing, and all-threats security assessments. He has worked with law enforcement, security, intelligence, and counter- intelligence organizations across Canada and among its closest allies.
A leader within the domestic and international intelligence community, Mr. Scheurkogel routinely led the development of interdepartmental joint intelligence products and has chaired multiple collaboration efforts among Canada’s allies.
Mr. Scheurkogel is also a skilled presenter who has been called upon routinely to present at allied cyber and intelligence conferences, as a guest speaker at DND and Government of Canada cyber and intelligence courses, and as a guest lecturer at universities in Canada and the USA.
